Background

WIT required the renovation of classrooms which were previously built in the 1970s.

Description of Services

Dermot Keating Construction Ltd (D.K.C.L.) began the project by removing all suspended ceilings, suspended floors, internal joinery, mechanical and electrical applications and demolishing all 225mm dividing block walls.
We built three new classrooms, an office, a cleaner’s store and a two storey service duct. All new walls were of 225mm thick blockwork. D.K.C.L. constructed 600mm tassle walls, fitted 4×3 wall plates to same and joisted out all floors with 9×2 joists and covered with WBP. Fitted new suspended ceilings to all rooms. Installation of modern mechanical, electrical, data and fire alarm systems. Fitted all new hardwood joinery and fire doors. Installed all new aluminium doors and windows. Ensured all fire sealing on site.
Internally painted and decorated all areas and laid new carpet tiles throughout the renovation.
Existing blockwork had to be scabbled in order to receive a plaster scratch coat. Applied a scratch coat of plaster and skim to all internal walls. Installed and upgraded the existing drainage network by inserting 225mm pipes under the concrete floors & footpaths and connected into the existing services.
The project was completed by forming fire escape ramps to the rear of the classrooms, fitting of stainless steel handrails to the sides of the sloped ramps.
